FIAT 500 a world wide success

The world has been captivated by the little Fiat 500 since it’s introduction in Europe last year and March 2008 in Australia. Motoring  journalists have filled many pages with their impressions of this car and everyone has wanted to read about it.  Comparisons and awards are still being added to “the pool room” including “European Car of the Year” for 2008.
This reinterpretation of the iconic Bambino has hit the market with perfect timing.  Huge fuel costs and ever increasing congestion in cities of the word have forced motorists to change their buying habits.  Big 4WDs and large family cars are being traded in on small “City” cars where parking, manoeuvrability and filling up the petrol tank for $45 is high on the priority list.  Yet there is no compromise on safety as the whole Fiat range have 5 Star safety ratings.

This premium product has alot going for it, 7 airbags, Stability control, Bluetooth and MP3 compatibility are just a few of the options or standard features depending on model. Although it is less than 3.6 metres you sit high in the cabin resulting in great vision and amazingly generous amounts of space for 4 adults.  With so many variations, options, colours and interiors this car appeals to every demographic.  From young men buying a Black Sport with Black leather, young women grabbing a red car with a sunroof, businesses buying mobile billboards taking full advantage of their cuteness and empty nesters of my generation reliving the time when they had the “original” 500.  Basically there is a combination for everyone.

I constantly say FIAT is Italian for fun and the 500 will put a smile on your face and responses from fellow road users and pedestrians not seen since the “Hey Charger!” reactions of the early 1970s.  My mum and dad still have a 1972 Charger and I  remember vividly the excitement of travelling down the road with people smiling, waving, calling out and mimicking the TV ad.  FIAT 500 owners are reporting back to us that strangers stop  them on the street and want to have a friendly chat about the car.  What an experience!  People are actually opening their eyes and reacting to their fellow human being.  This car could change the world!
