Fiat Ritmo – 1.4 turbo petrol Sport

The Ritmo is a relatively new car to Australia having been here about 3 months. It is a very comfortable car that gives an impression of space and quality throughout.
There are 2 models, Emotion and Sport and 2 turbo charged motors, a 1.4ltr petrol and a 1.9ltr diesel. The Sport model has larger wheels and tyres, climate control air- conditioning, side skirts and rear spoiler, “sports” instrumentation seats and trim. The only other options available are leather interior and a great dual sunroof which tilts and slides above the front pews but is fixed above the rear bench seats for safety reasons. Bothglass roofs have curtains to decrease the light. The car even comes with tailored floor mats as standard.

It’s only a 1.4 litre motor but the Garrett turbo is a gem with no turbo lag and makes the engine not only quiet but very free revving. The 6,000 redline is reached in 1st gear very quickly getting the car moving easily and fast. There are 5 more gears with a smooth shifting action. 3rd gear is fantastic for traffic as the car has enough torque to travel in this gear from almost a stop to 80kms without fuss. Another favourite feature is that the lights effectively turn corners with you.

Overall a very good car for the price with 5 star maximum safety rating, suited to both city driving and highway cruising and the engine has just been voted in the top 5 “green engines of the world” giving fantastic fuel efficiency.

I have just done close to 100 kilometres in the new Fiat Ritmo and first remarks. “Brilliant”. From the back seat it offers comfort with decent legroom for passengers, and great headroom. The Ritmo comes with six air bags as standard. Rear air-conditioning is also a great feature in the Ritmo. This car has some incredible features, one of my favourite is the headlight feature, when you turn a corner the lights move with the steering wheel. This allows a great view for the driver. From the back seat, this car is amazing, there isn’t much road noise, even though the sport version has very large 235 tyres on 17” alloys. This is a very wide tyre for a car of this size which enables better grip and handling. I was testing the car with the 1.4 litre turbo petrol that puts out 110 kw and 206 Nm of torque or with the sports button it will give it an extra 24Nm. If there was one word for this car, it is ”Brilliant”.
